Be better than a text message
In an age when everything is instant, when we can text, email, or DM someone in less time than it takes to uncap a pen, the idea of writing a handwritten note can feel quaint. Maybe even old-fashioned. But that’s precisely why it matters.
Handwritten notes are one of the last great gestures of thoughtfulness. They carry with them weight, intention, and permanence. They are small acts that cut through the noise of modern life and remind both writer and recipient of something essential: people still matter more than pixels.
I had this beaten into me as a kid. After every Christmas or birthday, my mother would make me sit at the kitchen table and write a thank-you note to everyone who gave me a gift, or even thought about sending me one. I hated it, but now I get it.
